BELONG TO THE ARTIST

(MIRAMONO)Hi Karol, thank you for finding some time to make our interview. How are you doing lately? could you tell us a bit about yourself?

(KAROL MALECKI) Hi, Thank You for the opportunity to participate in this interview. My Name is Karol and I'm a film photographer from Warsaw, Poland.
I’m 35 and I graduated in human nutrition in Warsaw so I’m self-taught in photography. Before the pandemic I worked in a family restaurant, after the coronavirus limitation we had to close the business and after that, I started to think more seriously about photography

How did you discover photography? and when did you start to realize it would become a part of your life?

My grandfather was always interested in photography. He had enlargers and lots of old cameras, and I have always been fascinated by the darkroom process that he did. After my grandfather's death, I borrowed a camera from my mother for the first time; this is how the adventure began. Some kind of basic Canon digital was my first real camera, and then I realize that is a nice way to express myself.

Before photography, did you have experience with any creative area? Have your family artist or creative background?

My family was farmers so there was no room for art. After some time my mom discovered that she is pretty good at painting and my grandpa was a photography enthusiast but he lived far for us.

Do you only shoot film? Have you ever considered shooting digital? What do you love the most about shooting with film?

Yes, I shoot only film. Film allows you to pause for a moment. Think about the frame, each shutter press costs money. Film is more tangible, and physical, you can literally touch the frame. I tried digital gear but it's not for me.

What does your typical day look like?

I don't have something like a typical day, I don't like monotony :)

What has been your most powerful work in your own view?

It's hard to judge my own work so I think that there wasn't one yet

Could you take one of your photographs and tell us the story behind that?

I was on vacation and received an offer from Kodak to make an advertising editorial for them. Unfortunately, I wasn't prepared at all. To sum up, me and my other half did a commercial using a disco ball in a sandpit location in about an hour.

Where do you get your inspiration from? is there any artist or photographer that particularly inspires you? which photographer would you like us to interview?

Every day of my life and travels inspires me the most. Of course, I admire the work of many photographers like Tom Johnson, Jack Davison, Zhong Lin, Quentin De Briey, and Alexander Saladrigas.

And finally, would you like to tell us about future projects or promote anything?

I would love to but I can only say that my future project will be on another continent.
